Honouring a legacy
Graeme Marsh (OBHS Old Boy 1947–1951)
This week we formally honoured the late Graeme Marsh at Otago Boys’ High School - a man whose generosity and deep connection to the school have left a lasting mark on our community.
The grandstand overlooking Littlebourne has now been officially renamed the Marsh Grandstand, recognising Graeme’s pivotal support for its recent upgrade. As a Life Member and Patron of the OBHS Foundation, Graeme’s contributions were many - including the Graeme Marsh Scholarship, which helps two students from Arthur Street School attend OBHS each year. A quiet but powerful gesture that reflects his belief in opportunity and potential.
At the ceremony, OBHS Foundation Chair John Blaikie said:
"Without Graeme’s contribution we could well have lost this iconic School structure. Now, students and the community alike can continue to watch fixtures all year round on our hallowed Littlebourne."
Graeme’s son, David, also spoke movingly about his father’s journey:
"Dad came from very humble beginnings and got to the top of his profession through hard work and toil. That gives hope - and every lad should have that in life."
We are proud to remember and celebrate a man who gave so much to Otago Boys’. His legacy lives on.
