Help aspiring and existing students with practical financial support toward their study at Otago Boys’ High School.
The Foundation’s Student Support Fund has given many boys the opportunity to study and achieve at OBHS — specifically those who need additional financial assistance for accommodation, fees, technical resources or in the form of scholarships. Further assistance is available for uniforms, sports trips, Mt Aspiring Lodge week, cultural activities and other appropriate subsidies.
Donating to the Student Support Fund will aid students in need at all levels throughout the school. Your donation also supports boys in specific goals they wish to achieve that require some financial assistance to attain.
Students (through their parents or guardians) can apply to the Foundation for a grant toward their particular need or aspiration. All applications are treated in absolute confidence. Please click on the link below to make an application.
Des Smith: Driving Support and Opportunity
Des Smith has long been a cornerstone of the Otago Boys’ High School community. His journey with the school began in 1968 when he joined the teaching staff. Over the next 27 years, Des became a highly respected figure within the school, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Rector in his final five years before retiring from teaching in 1995. He has remained a steadfast supporter of the school and works tirelessly with the OBHS Foundation.
In 2018, Des launched the OBHS Student Support Fund to ensure no boy misses out on the full Otago Boys’ experience due to financial hardship. Drawing on decades of coaching rugby and tennis, he reached out to Old Boys for support.
The fund has since helped cover boarding fees, school camps, field trips, and extracurricular activities - changing lives and opening doors for both boarders and day boys.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, Des has raised around $130,000. He extends heartfelt thanks to all who’ve contributed to this lasting legacy.
